Lo-Cresha Olyn, a promising student hailing from Olifantshoek, is the new recipient of a local scholarship programme. She is currently studying law at the University of the Western Cape, having discovered her passion for the field during a programme at Wits University. Her commitment to law was driven by the recognition of her community’s need for legal professionals.
This 19-year-old follows in the footsteps of her fellow community member, Machalline Diergaardt, who recently graduated with a degree in Education at the University of Free State, also as a REISA Solar scholarship beneficiary. With motivation like this, Lo-Cresha is just as determined, and is set to complete her degree in 2027 and become a successful attorney.
“Receiving this scholarship has meant a lot to me, not only for myself but also for my parents, since I come from a family that does not have the financial means to support my studies. This opportunity has enabled me to pursue my dreams and strive for success, for which I am deeply grateful,” said Lo-Cresha.
Established in 2015, the REISA Solar Scholarship Fund aims to provide tertiary education funding for youth residing within a 50km radius of the solar facility, encompassing Kathu, Olifantshoek, Dibeng, Siyathemba, Babatas and Mapoteng. The programme’s primary focus is to contribute towards human resource development in fields critical for the South African economy. It covers tuition, accommodation, stationary, textbooks, laptops, administration fees, meals, transport and living allowance.
“With a commitment to the well-being and development of our communities, we are proud to support ambitious students like Lo-Cresha on their educational journey. We believe that by investing in education, we are investing in the future of our country. We congratulate Lo-Cresha on her achievements thus far and look forward to witnessing her future successes,” said Shariefa Rhode, Community Operations Manager for REISA Solar.
Looking ahead, Lo-Cresha remains committed to using her education and skills to uplift her community and make a difference. Her aspirations include not only achieving professional success but also creating positive change in the lives of those around her.
